TURBULENT HANDS, MOUTHS, MINDS
Ronaldo T. Santos

The cozy fifty-seater Oracafe at Kamias Road survived the stampede Thursday, September 28. The University of the Philippines’ premier student literary pool, U.P. Quill, held its annual book-launching-cum-concert - aptly dubbed as Turbulence. Everyone barely survived the bombardment. The show was a huge club-sandwich of sorts that defied all superlatives. Rock performances by capable college acts Raul, Ginseng, Agent X-44, Talula Craft, Brown Shirt Trinity, The Celeste Flores Experience, Blues Barangay, and headliners The Purplechickens cherry-topped the night. Oracafe patrons were also treated to startling performance poetry, a growing discipline that plays between the plainly auditory and the theatric. The eighth installment of the widely-respected cult folio Sitting Amok was also launched, along with its high-technology first cousin, Amok Online. The new site was introduced interactively as audience members got to view it on an open-to-the-public, hands-on laptop. Globe Telecom sponsored the printing of the book and putting up the night. Other sponsors included Channel V Philippines, Pinoycentral, and The Purplechickens. Sitting Amok: Eight can be ordered online, through this website, at upquill@updiliman.com
